Memory

Mummy loved to garden and had a very beautiful yard to show for it. She was also a very talented cook.

Uncle George was kind of a farmer. I remember riding on his tractor a lot. He would let me sit in the cart that he was pulling. They had a lot of acres at the top of a small mountain. They called it Mount Eureka. It was near Camp David where our presidents go for special meetings or just to get away. Uncle George grew all kinds of vegetables and fruit. They harvested so much that they had to rent freezer space in Waynesboro, PA. You could see Waynesboro from their backyard way down below. It looked like a toy city from Mount Eureka. In the middle of the summer Mummy would take me with her to get stuff from that huge walk-in freezer. I had to wear winter clothes in otherwise warm weather to withstand that cold. Uncle George smoked cigars; but only in his study. I really liked the smell of that room. I also liked to explore the woods all around their property. I think it was a hundred acres. The driveway from the road up to their home was about a mile long. It wound its way through the woods.

By the way, Uncle George was Mummy's second husband. I believe she divorced the father of my mother.

Follow up note

We used to visit Nana who lived in the Dutch Cottage on Harrison Street in Easton. She was Mummy's mother...so probably William Brickloe's wife. Mummy had a brother named Draper. Mummy went by the name Rodney.
